Commands
embr studio
Last updated August 24, 2026
More than "open Studio": embr studio is a subcommand group (bare
embr studio prints its help) that manages the [studio] table in
ember.toml, which describes what this project opens in Roblox Studio —
either a published place (universe + place IDs) or a local place
file, never both.
embr studio init#
Interactive wizard that writes [studio] (errors if the table already
exists). Two paths:
- Published place: prompts for the universe (experience) ID and place ID — both positive integers.
- Local file: prompts for a
.rbxl/.rbxlxpath. The default is guessed from the project's Rojo manifest (thenamefield ofdefault.project.json, else the first*.project.jsonalphabetically) as<name>.rbxl. The file doesn't have to exist yet — building it later withrojo buildis normal.
embr studio open#
Opens whatever [studio] describes, after validating everything checkable
before Studio is involved:
- the table is present (
[studio]missing → "runembr studio init"), not empty, has no unknown keys (a typo'd key is named, e.g.universeId), and doesn't mix both forms at once; - both IDs present and non-zero, or the file is non-empty, exists, is a file, and has a place extension;
- Studio looks installed: on Windows the
roblox-studio:protocol handler and.rbxlassociation in the registry; on macOSRobloxStudio.appin /Applications or ~/Applications; on Linux best-effort viaxdg-mime(there is no official Linux Studio — a missing handler points at Vinegar).
Then it launches: IDs become the same
roblox-studio:1+launchmode:edit+task:EditPlace+placeId:…+universeId:…
deep link the Roblox website's own Edit button uses; files go through the OS
file association. Launch is via ShellExecuteW / open / xdg-open.
No credentials are involved — Studio authenticates the user itself after
the handoff, and anything that goes wrong after launch is Studio's to show.
Typos are contained#
A typo'd [studio] key never breaks other commands — the manifest
still parses; only studio open reports it.
The manifest table#
[studio] # one form only
universe = 13058
place = 1818
# file = "game.rbxl"
