embr index
Last updated October 23, 2026
embr index add [name] [url]
embr index remove [name]
Manages [indices] in ember.toml.
Adding#
add prompts for missing arguments (with autocomplete). The names wally
(github.com/UpliftGames/wally-index), pesde (github.com/pesde-pkg/index),
and forest (api.forest.dev) fill in their URLs automatically; any other
name asks for a git URL. Re-adding an existing name updates it.
The key default is special: it overrides Ember's own registry for
dependencies that name no index.
Removing#
remove picks from a list when no name is given, and warns how many
dependencies still reference the removed index — they would break on the
next resolve.
The local index#
The name local is the local registry that
embr publish --local writes. It needs
no [indices] entry: --index local and index = "local" work in every
project. Ember's own registry stays the default. To make local the default
on this computer, run embr self default-index local.
Custom indices#
Any git repository in wally or pesde index format works as a custom index.
Ember auto-detects the format: a root config.json means wally, a root
config.toml means pesde. Forest has no git index. Ember reads its API,
and knows it by the host api.forest.dev.
